Who: You! (anyone ages 14-18 or grades 9-12)
When: March 18th-20th, 2020 (during spring break)
We are excited to announce that Project Respect will be offering our fifth Youth Social Action Camp this March at Camp Barnard, on T’Sou-ke territories. We are inviting youth from all identities, backgrounds, and experiences to explore how and why violence happens, and identify social justice issues that are relevant to them. You will be supported in creating social action projects to address the issues relevant to your experiences. No prior experience is necessary, and all youth interested in social action are encouraged to apply!
Activities at camp will include workshops and conversations surrounding social action, sexualized violence, consent, gender, and creating change in our communities. This year, you will also have the chance to participate in research exploring the impact of our SHIFTing Culture project. This project gives us a chance to see how our current programs addressing dating violence are working, including our two-part school workshops, youth leadership training, Safer Spaces training for teachers, and camp! At camp, people who wish to participate will be able to take a leadership role in this program by analyzing some preliminary research data, interpreting the program’s impacts through art and theatre, and providing recommendations to shape future programs at Project Respect.
We will be exploring all of these topics through theatre, art, poetry, media, group discussions, nature walks, campfire circles, games, and other fun activities. Camp will be facilitated by youth leaders and Project Respect staff, and the agenda will be determined by the wants and desires of you(th)!
If you would like to come to camp, RSVP using this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3RQYRk_cP6xEPx7ADsrNUjlcdl33_pYbuEs-E9Ypdte3Pug/viewform?usp=sf_link
Spots are limited, and we can’t guarantee that everyone who applies will secure a spot at camp. We will try our best to ensure as many people can participate as possible!
